Our 98 year old mother, grandmother and great-great-grandmother Joyce Butzen peacefully left this earth on January 6, 2017. She was looking forward to meeting with our dad Elmer to tell him all the things that have happened since his death on January 24, 1974. We think it will be a long conversation.
Joyce was born August 14, 1918 in Kimberly, WI, the daughter of John and Estella (nee Thole) Koehn, and soon after her family moved to Sheboygan. Joyce attended Holy Name grade school, and graduated from Central High School. She made many lifelong friendships, and enjoyed years of happy reunions.
Joyce worked for many years at J.C. Penney Co in the men's department. She was the owner and wonderful cook at J & E Grill in Sheboygan, as well as the owner of the Sail Rail Bar where many fun times were had.
Besides being a loving mom, Joyce made time for the card club that she participated in for over 60 years. She was a long time member of the Eagle's Club and Christian Mothers, served as a Cub Scout leader, enjoyed doing migrant camp research, and loved to play bingo and slot machines.
Joyce was a social butterfly who was witty, fun loving and always there for her family and friends.
Joyce is survived by her six children: Lucy (Ross) Parisi and their children Aren, Ross Jr., Mary, Nino and Josh; Tom (Bonnie) Butzen and their children Bob, Lisa and Marcy; Mike (Gail) Butzen and their children Chad, Jeremy and Jeffrey; Jim (Renee) Butzen and their child Jessie, Tim (Joannie) Butzen and their children Jenny and Annie; and Peter (Rosie) Butzen and their child Melissa. Joyce was a proud great-grandmother of 28 and great-great-grandmother of 3.
Joyce is preceded in death by her husband Elmer, grandchildren: David Butzen, Tommy Jr. Butzen, Vinnie Butzen and infant Jean, brother Leonard, sister Florence, and other extended family.
A Memorial Mass to celebrate Joyce's life will be held at 11AM on Saturday, January 14, 2017 at Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church in Sheboygan. The family will receive visitors at the church on Saturday from 9-11AM. She will be laid to rest beside Elmer at Calvary Cemetery in Sheboygan.
The family would like to thank the staff at Meadowview Nursing Home for their wonderful care, as well as Dr. Marsho, Southern Care Hospice, Meals on Wheels, and Joyce's good friend Darlene.
She will be sadly missed but never forgotten. God bless you Joyce; you are free at last!
