Katherine Franzen

Katherine G. Franzen, 87, of Sheboygan, passed away Saturday, September 5, 2015 at Terrace Place. Katherine was born on May 30, 1928, in Fond du Lac, to the late Norman and Gertrude (Jarvis) Schmitz. On June 24, 1950, she married LeRoy Franzen at St. Mary Catholic Church, Fond du Lac. He preceded her in death on December 6, 2008. Katherine and LeRoy ran Lee and Katie's Bar for several years. Prior to her retirement, she worked as a billing clerk at Franzen Graphics. Katherine enjoyed playing bingo, playing cards and spending time with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-granddaughter. Katherine was a member of St. Peter Claver Catholic Church. Survivors include four children, Brian (Joy) Franzen, Craig (Carol) Franzen, Kim (Steve) Gerk, all of Sheboygan and Trudy Franzen, Port Washington; twelve grandchildren, Jason (Robin) Franzen, Angel (Mark) Noll, Taylor Franzen, Toby (Lisa) Franzen, Chad (Nicki) Franzen, Jill (Will) Rash, Nick (Stephanie) Franzen, Melissa (Joey) Ross, Holly Gerk, Katy (Brandon) Schmidt, Nichole Kloss and Paul S. Kloss III; sixteen great-grandchildren, Haley, Nolan, Mason, Skylar, Kayla, Allie, Bella, Parker, Acadia, Benjamin, Bridget, Brayden, Evelyn, Izzy, Sophia and Madalyn; one great-great-granddaughter, Kadence; one daughter-in-law, Cheryl Franzen. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one son, Richard Franzen and two brothers, Norman Schmitz, Jr. and Fr. Gerald Schmitz. A Memorial Mass will be held on Monday, September 14, 2015 at 4:00 p.m. at St. Peter Claver Catholic Church, (1444 S. 12th Street, Sheboygan) with the Rev. Richard Cerpich as celebrant. Friends may call on Monday, at the church, from 2:00 p.m. until the time of the Mass. Inurnment will be at Holy Cross Cemetery. A memorial fund has been established in her name. The family would like to extend a thank you to the staff of Terrace Place and a special thank you to Jeanette Felde for the time she spent with Katie.
