Ken DeShambo died peacefully at his home on the evening of November 1, 2015. He was born November 18, 1940 to Richard and Agnes DeShambo and had an idyllic childhood in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. In 1959 Ken graduated from Holy Name High School in Escanaba and went on to receive a degree in education from Northern Michigan University. He later earned his Master's from UWM. Ken taught English and English as a Second Language at Sheboygan South High School for 32 years. He was passionate about the teaching profession and positively impacted the lives of his students. Ken met the love of his life, Sandy Girard, when they were seniors in high school. They were married on September 7, 1963 and spent 52 incredible years together. They were blessed with five loving children, who together with their spouses, gave them 13 adoring grandchildren who thought the world of their grandpa. Ken was fond of saying..."Life is great!" He spent his retirement years traveling the globe with "his bride" and not a day went by that he didn't express gratitude for the life he was able to lead. Above all, his greatest joy was spending time with Sandy, his children, and his grandchildren creating magical memories that will remain in our hearts forever. Ken will be remembered for his integrity, kindness, and sense of humor; he made Sandy laugh every day. He felt joy in other's happiness and was an example of a life well-lived. Oh, he will be dearly missed. Ken is survived by his wife Sandy and his children Kevin and Cathy DeShambo, Paul and Shannon DeShambo, Kristen and Matt Doedens, Mary Lynn and Alaa El Ghatit, and David and Cheryl DeShambo; grandchildren Kelsey, Rachel, Alexandria, Gabrielle, Jenna, Kennan, Zachary, Addison, Noah, Daniel, Maya, Lucas, and Sara. He is also survived by his sisters Judy Young and Peggy Bergerson (John), sister-in-law Pat DeShambo, his mother-in-law Marguerite Girard, and his brother-in-law Chris Girard (Margaret); many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, father-in-law Lowell Girard, brother Richard, brother-in-law Richard Young, and nephews Corey and Adam. Per Ken's wish, a private service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for a Sheboygan South High School Scholarship Fund in his name. Contributions can be sent to Zimmer-Westview Funeral Home.
