LaVern R. "Lee" Larson, age 91, of Sheboygan, passed away at his residence on Tuesday March 26, 2013. He was born on the family homestead in Elkader, Iowa on May 21, 1921, a son of the late Lars Peter and Lydia (Roras) Larson. LaVern proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. After his honorable discharge, he moved to Sheboygan Falls, where he raised his four children. During that time he was employed at the Sinclair Station as a mechanic. After the death of his father, he moved to Elkader to manage the family farm for five years. He then became a business partner in the Sinclair Station in Sheboygan Falls in 1959, where he continued to work as a mechanic for many years. One of Lavern's great passions was bowling, and he later became associated with the Sopetto Lanes in Sheboygan Falls as a mechanic. During this time he bowled a perfect 300 game, belonging to various Men's bowling leagues. He then became the mechanic and manager of North bowl Lanes in Sheboygan for many years until retirement. LaVern was a people person, he enjoyed the company of others, laughing together, and having a good time. The Christmas holidays, and other events, were always special to him, when he could be with Lorraine and his family, treasuring the time they had together. He enjoyed fishing on Lake Winnebago, gardening and golfing. He was an avid Cubs fan. Surviving Lavern are his four children; Keith (Corrine) Larson of Phelps, WI, Karen (Larry) Schomberg of Sheboygan Falls, Kathy (Bill) Browning of Madison, WI. and Kyle (Michelle) Larson of Middleton, WI, nine grandchildren; Dennis Fisher, Shannon Larson, Jeff (Shannon) Schomberg, Heidi Meyer, Christopher Browning, Nicholas (Becky) Browning, Ryan (Tera) Browning, Ethan and Olivia Larson, seven great-grandchildren; Kyrstin, Joshua and Samuel Schomberg, Logan, Collin and Dylan Meyer, Charles Browning. Also surviving is his loving companion and confidant of over 30 years, Lorraine Wallander, of Sheboygan, a sister-in-law, Virginia Larson of Bozeman, MT., and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, LaVern was also preceded in death by two brothers; Merlin and Norris Larson, a sister, Rose Ormsby, a brother-in-law, Joseph Ormsby, a half-sister, Myrtle Trehus and her husband, Henry. A Funeral Service will be conducted for LaVern on Saturday, March 30, 2013 at 11:30 a.m. at the Chapel of Eternal Light, Greenlawn Memorial Park, 6706 Superior Avenue, Sheboygan. Reverend Tom Fleischmann will officiate. Military Honors and committal rites will be accorded following the service. Friends may call on the family at the Chapel on Saturday from 10:30 a.m. until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in his name.
