LaVern Wilke

LaVern Wilke, age 87, of Sheboygan, went home to her Lord and Savior on Friday afternoon, March 18, 2016 surrounded by her loving family.
She was born July 14, 1928 in Sheboygan to Peter and Jennie (Otten) Wondergem. She attended Sheboygan Christian School and was a graduate of Sheboygan North High School, Class of 1946. She furthered her education in Chicago at The Cradle. LaVern then worked at Memorial Hospital in the Nursery as a nurses aide.
On April 23, 1948 LaVern and Roger K. Wilke were united in marriage at First Christian Reformed Church in Sheboygan and would have celebrated their 68th anniversary this year.
LaVern was a faithful, active member of First Christian Reformed Church where she was a member of the Deo Gloria Choir for many years which she enjoyed. She was a Head Counselor for the Calvinettes and attended Ruth Mission Society. She was an active member and served as Womens Auxiliary President for Sheboygan Christian School. LaVern was also proud to serve as an election poll worker for many years at US Grant Elementary School.
LaVern was an excellent homemaker who enjoyed sewing, needlework, baking, reading and fishing. As a family they traveled throughout the United States. The couple traveled extensively including trips to Japan, Mexico, Spain, and Africa. They shared many wonderful times at their cottage on White Potato Lake. Above all, caring for her family was of utmost importance to her.
In addition to her devoted husband, Roger, she is survived by her children, Renee (Michael W.) Landgraf, William (Jean) Wilke, and Peter (Wendy) Wilke all of Sheboygan; eight grandchildren, Michael J. Landgraf, Patrick (Debra) Landgraf, Jana (Eric) Rosenstein, Erin OBrien, Laurel (Robert) Neary, Julie (Steve) Manolis, Thomas Wilke, and Joseph Wilke; eight great-grandchildren, Justin, Madison, Hope, Jacob, Tyler, Joe, Emmalyn, and Eloise; one brother, Kenneth Wondergem; and other relatives and friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Thomas Lee; her sister and brother-in-law, Charlotte and Wesley VanderWeele; and her sister-in-law, Edith Wondergem.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 23, 2016 at Christ Community Church (formerly First Christian Reformed Church) 5th Geele, Sheboygan. Rev. Larry Meyer, Pastor will officiate. A time of visitation and support will be held at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Burial at Greenlawn Memorial Park will have preceded the service.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in her name for Sheboygan Christian School and Sheboygan County Christian High School.
