Lee James Blandin, age 89, of Sheboygan, died Monday evening, August 8, 2016 at Sheboygan Progressive Care Center.
He was born December 30, 1926 in Crandon, WI to Lillie and Elwin Blandin. He grew up in Kohler, WI and enlisted in the US Navy at the age of seventeen. His desire was to meet up with his brother, Bud, who was serving in the Naval Air Corps in the Philippines during WW II. Lee proudly represented his country.
Lee was united in marriage to Gloria M. Lemerond at Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church and they were married almost sixty years. Together they raised and cherished 2 children. Lee and Gloria are members of Bethany Reformed Church.
Lee was employed for 39 years as an electrician at the Kohler Co., retiring in January, 1989.
After retirement he volunteered for fifteen years at Sheboygan Memorial Hospital, proudly wearing his volunteer's red jacket for thousands of hours. He also attended countless activities for his seven grandchildren, which he also greatly enjoyed. Lee liked talking politics and sports, especially his beloved Bears and White Sox. He was also an avid Door County fisherman.
Lee was blessed with the ability to make people smile--just ask the staff at Sheboygan Progressive. While his memory deteriorated he did his best to always make people feel he was still connected to their lives. He had a sweet tooth that everyone catered to--candy bars, donuts, coffee cake... Lee and Gloria shared a love for music, especially Jazz, Big Band and Barbara Streisand.
In addition to his loving wife, Gloria, he is survived by his daughter, Kim (Paul) Planton of Sheboygan Falls, his daughter-in-law, Julie (Verl) Wicker of Sheboygan; his grandchildren, Matthew Planton, Daniel (Kelly) Planton, Christopher Planton, Meredith (Sam) Spencer, Jacob Planton, Adham Blandin, and Cole Blandin; two great-grandchildren, Madelyn and Eliot Planton; his brother, Franklin "Bud" Blandin; and many other relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, James Blandin; his sister, Bernice Visser and her husband, Harold; his sister-in-law, Beverly Blandin.
A memorial service and celebration of Lee's life will be held at a later date.
Lee's family would like to thank the entire staff at Sheboygan Progressive Care Center for their care and compassion this last year.
Memorials in Lee's name will be given to the Alzheimer's Association.
