Leo Kaltenbrun

December 7, 1919 — August 30, 2016

Leo Arthur Kaltenbrun, the youngest of ten children of Anton and Mary (Stahl) Kaltenbrun died Tuesday, August 30, 2016 at the age of 96.

He was born December 7, 1919 near St. Nazianz in Manitowoc County. At age five, when his mother died, Leo and his sister Helen went to live with his father's sister, Minnie, and her husband Albert Christel, on a dairy farm east of St. Nazianz. At age 16, Leo was raising foxes and became part-owner of a mink ranch. Leo went to grade school at St. Gregory's Catholic School in St. Nazianz, and was a graduate of Kiel High School, Class of 1937.

On June 24, 1941, Leo and Gloria M. Waniger were united in marriage at St. Gregory's Catholic Church in St. Nazianz and moved to Random Lake where he ran a mink and fox ranch. Early in 1942 the couple moved to Silver Lake and Leo worked at Sorge's Dairy in Manitowoc. In March of 1944 when his son Dennis was 8 months old, Leo was drafted into the US Army. He served as a Technician 5th Grade in the European Theater during WW II. Following his honorable discharge on May 16, 1946, he returned to his home in Manitowoc.

Leo's brothers, Art and Ed Kaltenbrun, had established a roofing business, and in 1946 Leo joined them in Kaltenbrun Bros. Roofing Company, Inc. in Sheboygan. Leo was President of the company since 1970 to 2012.

Leo was a member of St. Clement Catholic Parish. He was also a member of Elk's Lodge #299, belonged to the Sheboygan VFW Post #9156, and to the Knights of Columbus.

Business affiliations include: Sheboygan Contractors, National Roofers Contractors Association (NRCA), American Builders & Contractors (ABC), and National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB).
In his spare time Leo enjoyed watching movies on television and was an avid Green Bay Packers fan.
Leo's wife of 66 years, Gloria, died on February 28, 2007. He was also preceded in death by a grandson, David Lee Butzen, and siblings, Viola (John) Johnson, Gert (John Cavagnetto, Arthur (Ella) Kaltenbrun, Edmund (Mildred) Kaltenbrun, Fritz (Lorraine) Kaltenbrun, Angie (John) Gavronski, Olive (Gordon) Verhulst, Helen (Harley) Ferk and Frieda (Wallace) Voeks.

Surviving Leo are his son, Dennis (Kathy) Kaltenbrun, his daughter, Renee' (Jim) Butzen; grandchildren, Rob Kaltenbrun, Joe (Sherry) Kaltenbrun, Jesse (Marti) Butzen; great-grandchildren, Nick, Kara, Nathan and Kailey Kaltenbrun, Quinn and David Butzen. Leo will be missed by his family, many friends and relatives and by his dear friend, Joyce Schuchardt Conrardy.
A time of visitation and support will be held at Ballhorn Chapels, 1201 N. 8th Street, Sheboygan on Saturday, September 3, 2016 from 9:30a.m. until time of Service at 11:00a.m.. Committal service at Holy Cross Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to the charity of one's choice are greatly appreciated.

Leo's family would like to share their sincere gratitude to Countryside Manor, Golden Living Center, and to the Sharon S. Richardson Hospice for the wonderful care Leo was given and the sincere support they received during this time.
