Lina J. Reid, age 90, died Sunday, November 4, 2018, All Saints Sunday, at Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice.
Lina was born and raised in Northern Bavaria (West Germany). She had many happy memories and stories of time with family and friends as a child in the German countryside, including attending school and the Lutheran church, cross country skiing, ice skating, hiking, and other activities. She was a child when WW II broke out, and experienced some difficult times, including the death of her mother, Margaret, when Lina was five, the political imprisonment of her father for several months, and the death of her older brother, Alfred, who was a German soldier.
Lina met Ben C. Reid, when she was living in Esslingen, Germany, and he was stationed in Stuttgart as an Army helicopter pilot. She emigrated to Toronto, Canada and later to the United States. She and Ben were united in marriage on April 10, 1957 in Baltimore, Maryland. Together they raised two daughters. In 1959 Lina proudly became a United States citizen and learned how to drive.
After marriage Lina enjoyed her roles as full-time homemaker, wife, and mother, later grandmother and great-grandmother. She also enjoyed sewing, knitting, crocheting, cooking German and Southern fare, family camping trips, trips to the ocean, and raising azaleas on their twenty acre azalea farm near Conyers, Georgia.
Lina greatly enjoyed her annual trips to Germany with her daughters and later her grandchildren to visit her family. Following retirement, she and Ben had the privilege of spending wonderful times with their grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Lina's beloved husband, Ben, preceded her in death on July 1, 2006.
In 2007 Lina came to live with her daughter and son-in-law in Iowa and moved with them to Wisconsin. In April of 2016 she moved to Prairie Crossing at Pine Haven Christian Community in Sheboygan Falls.
Lina is survived by two daughters, Pastor Kathy Reid and her husband, Pastor Ric Olson of Cleveland, WI and Linda (Keri) Robinson, of Conyers, GA; two grandchildren, Alicia (Andy) Kohn of Fort Dix, NJ and Kris (fiancée, Jennifer Kraft) Robinson of Tri-Cities, WA; four great-grandchildren, Kellie, Ben, Amanda, and Josh and other relatives and friends.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her father and step-mother, Georg and Anna Stahl; her brother, Alfred Stahl; and her step-brother, Karl Petzet and other beloved family members.
A memorial service in celebration of Lina's life will be held Friday, November 16 at 3:00 p.m. in the Community Room at Pine Haven Christian Community, 220 Haven Drive, Sheboygan Falls, WI. Visitation will begin at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Lina's name to Wesley United Methodist Church, 823 Union Ave, Sheboygan, WI 53085.
