Liselotte Zumpft

May 20, 1927 — July 18, 2016

Liselotte J. (Neubauer) Zumpft, "Lisa" age 89 of Sheboygan passed away Monday, July 18, 2016 at Sheboygan Senior Community with her loving children by her side.

She was born on May 20, 1927 in Muenster-Westfalia, Germany to Franz Josef and Johanna (Habig) Neubauer. She attended German grade school and high school. She studied at Muenster University where she became a medical technologist. She worked at the Anatomical Institute of Histology in Muenster and at Sacred Heart Hospital in Eau Claire, WI. During World War II, she and the students of her high school were sent to a small town in Bavaria where they were kept safe from the bombing in Germany and returned safely to their parents in Muenster. She was a Red Cross nurse during the end of the war where she helped take care of wounded soldiers.

On Thanksgiving Day in November of 1954 Lisa came to the United States to be with her fiancé, Hans N. Zumpft who was also born in Germany. They were married in Eau Claire, WI on January 16, 1955. In 1968, Lisa, Hans, and their two daughters, Nanette and Eileen moved to Sheboygan, WI. She volunteered in the health room at Horace Mann Junior High School. Lisa and her husband were PTA Presidents during the first years of Horace Mann. They were members of First United Lutheran Church, where she taught children's summer bible school. In 1969, they joined the People to People organization and became co-chair members of the Sheboygan-Esslingen student exchange program for several years. As a family they hosted many Sheboygan and German high school students.

Lisa enjoyed traveling with her husband and daughters in the U.S. and visiting relatives and friends throughout Europe, namely Germany. She also enjoyed reading, quilting, knitting, playing the piano, playing cards, planting flowers in her garden, and being with her good friends. In 2006, Hans preceded her in death, and she missed him dearly. In 2014 she was interviewed and recorded by the Max Kade Institute of the University of Madison-Wisconsin about her life in Germany and her immigrant experiences. She cherished her children and grandchildren and the times they spent together.

Liselotte is survived by her loving daughters, Nanette (Robert) Franze of Waukesha and Eileen (Mark) Padrnos of Madison and her cherished grandchildren, Alyssa and Erik Franze, Isaac and Alex Padrnos. She is further survived by other loved relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband Hans; brother Franz Josef Neubauer; and sister Johanna Neubauer.
