Lois Potter

Lois C. (Dekker) Potter, age 90, of Sheboygan, departed this life to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday evening, December 2, 2015 at Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice. Lois was born November 2, 1925 in Sheboygan to Edward and Joanne (Cevaal) Dekker. She graduated from Sheboygan Christian School in 1939 and was a graduate of Sheboygan North High School, Class of 1943. Prior to her marriage Lois was employed at Peoples Clothing and Wisconsin Power and Light Company. Later she worked at H R Block. On June 13, 1946 Lois and Martin Potter were united in marriage at First Christian Reformed Church in Sheboygan. After 65 years of marriage, Martin preceded Lois in death on April 16, 2012. Lois was a lifelong, active member of First Christian Reformed Church (now Christ Community Church) where she participated in the Deo Gloria Choir, Eunice Bible Society, Vacation Bible School, Golden Agers, and the Coffee Break. Lois enjoyed spending much time at her parents cottage on Crystal Lake. Following retirement the Potters spent many winters in California and Florida. Her special interests included cooking, baking, reading, music, Scrabble, Christian Womens Club and Friendship Bible Studies. Later in life Lois took up oil and watercolor painting. She painted well over 100 paintings, most of which have been given away to family and friends. Lois is survived by three children, Pamela (Pastor Dave) Hicks of Aptos, CA, Mark (Pam) Potter of Buckeye, AZ, and Steve Potter of West Allis, WI; seven grandchildren, Robin (Major Josh) Chartier, Carrie (Patrick) Steele, Wendy (Jeremy) Dailey, Kristy (Darin) Johnson, Chris Potter, Tom Potter, and Danielle Potter; nine great-grandchildren, Calvin, Carter, Caleb, and Camille Chartier, Jack Steele, Tatum and Jeremiah Dailey, Eli and Faith Johnson; two brothers, Jim Dekker, Edward Breezy (Jackie) Dekker; three sisters, Janet (Chris) VandeGuchte, Edythe Good, and Carla (Curtis) Walser; sister- in-law, Carol Dekker; and other relatives and friends. In addition to her husband, Martin, she was preceded in death by her son, Paul; a brother, Bob Dekker; two sisters, Joan (Carroll) Verhelst, and Doris (Earl) Roth. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 9, 2015 at 12:00 noon at Christ Community Church (formerly First Christian Reformed Church), 428 Geele Ave., Sheboygan, WI. Rev. Larry Meyer, Pastor, will officiate. A time of visitation and support will be held from 11:00 am until the time of service. Entombment will take place at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Kohler. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in the name of Lois Potter for Sheboygan Christian School Foundation. The family would like to extend their sincere thanks to the staff at Sharon S. Richardson for their loving care and support.
