Lora Verona Schmahl, 89, of Sheboygan Falls, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August23, 2017 at Pine Have Covenant Home, where she resided the past two years. Lora was born November 5, 1927 in the Town of Lima to Arthur and Josephine (Kroeplein) Perronne. Lora grew up on her parents' farm and was a graduate of Sheboygan Falls High School, Class of 1945. On June 17, 1950, Lora and Kenneth Schmahl were united in marriage at the bride's home in the Town of Lima.
Lora was employed at R-Way Furniture Company shortly after she graduated from high school, but stayed at home as a full-time mother after her children were born. She later worked at Waldheim Floral for several years in the 1970's. In addition to raising two sons, Lora was a tireless caregiver for her parents in their final years and devoted homemaker and wife to her husband of 62 years. Lora enjoyed gardening, sewing, knitting, crossword puzzles and volunteering on election days at the polls. Following retirement, Lora and Ken moved to Phoenix, Arizona, where they spent the next three decades enjoying the warm climate, their closest friends and occasional visits from family. One of the highlights of Lora and Ken's life journey together was chaperoning a group of children on a trip to Germany in the 1980's.
Lora is survived by her sons, Randal (Nancy) Schmahl of Plymouth and Michael (Diane) Schmahl of Sheboygan; one grandson, Brett (Kerrie) Schmahl; two great-grandchildren, Mason Schmahl and Aiden Schmahl; one step-granddaughter, Kristi (Michael) Tillman; two step-great-grandchildren, Jake Berlin and Amanda Berlin; one brother, Harold (Marilyn) Perronne, as well
as many other relatives and friends.
In addition to her beloved husband, Ken, she was preceded in death by her parents and parents-in-law, Robert and Emma Schmahl.
Lora was a gentle woman and will always be remembered for her selflessness, smile and easy-going manner.
