Lucy Matzner passed away peacefully at age 91 on July 22, 2017. She was preceded in death by her husband Robert of 69 years, as well as her brother Paul Argiewicz. She is survived by her children; Richard, Murray (Barbara), and Jo (Jeff), sister-in-law Cheryl Argiewicz, nephews Bill (Nathalie), Fred, grandson Shawn, and great granddaughter Grace.
Lucy grew up in Bielsko-Biala , Poland, and was a survivor of the Holocaust. After the war she emigrated to Sheboygan with Robert, and Richard. While Lucy was not as well-known for speaking about the Holocaust as her husband, she also spoke to many about her experiences.
Throughout her life Lucy owned a number of businesses, including Herman's Dress Shop. Lucy was a master canner and baker, and was especially known for her pecan turtle cookies, crescent cookies, and rum balls. She found a certain joy in a great sale, and it was even more special when others could also take advantage of it. Lucy had a quick wit and was known to say just the right thing at the right time.
Lucy traveled extensively, especially throughout the United States, Europe, and Israel.
She was a member of Congregation Beth El, where she was a member of Sisterhood, President and Lifetime Member of Hadassah, and a lifetime supporter of Israeli causes.
