Marcella F. Loersch, age 93, died unexpectedly at home Wednesday, February 5, 2014. She was born December 28, 1920 the youngest of nine children to parents Louis and Madeline (Fleskoski) Hieland in Berlin, WI. Marcella moved to Sheboygan in the late 1930's. Marcella was united in marriage to James C. Loersch on June 28, 1947 and began a life on Mueller Road until the day she died. Marcella was an avid reader and was always interested in current events and believed in the democratic process by voting even in her advancing years. She took great pride in promoting the value of education even though she did not complete high school. She also enjoyed gardening, taking walks, sewing, and staying active by continually keeping busy which contributed to her longevity. Marcella enjoyed watching the Green Bay Packers and never missed a game on television. Throughout her life Marcella was primarily a homemaker, but did work at a variety of jobs. During World War II she was employed at Hand Knit which is today Wigwam Mills, assisted students at Lincoln Erdman, Mapledale, and Jefferson Elementary Schools during the lunch hours, and in her later years was employed part time as head of janitorial services at Medical Eye Associates until 2005. Marcella is survived by her son James J. (Joan) Loersch and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband James C., her parents, and eight brothers and sisters; Angeline, Clifford, Lillian, Sophie, Louis, Louise, Josephine, and Ralph. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Marcella on Monday, February 10, at St. Dominic Catholic Church, 2133 N. 22nd Street, Sheboygan at 12 Noon with Fr. Philip Reifenberg presiding. Friends may call on the family at the church on Monday from 10:00 AM until time of mass. Burial will follow the mass at Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established to benefit The Salvation Army.
