Margene Roth

Margene Marie Roth, age 80, of Chilton, died Tuesday, August 4, 2015 at her residence. She was born February 8, 1935 in Sheboygan, the only child of Eugene C. and Margaret M. (Oldenburg) Roth. She attended Lincoln Grade School and was a graduate of Sheboygan Central High School, Class of 1953. She received her bachelor's degree from UW-Madison in 1958. While living in Sheboygan she was a member of St. Mark Lutheran Church. For many years Margene was employed at Wausau Insurance Company (now Liberty Insurance), retiring in 1995 as Manager of Credit Administration. While in Wausau she became friends with Shirley Peterson and remained close throughout the years. Following retirement Margene made her home at the family cottage on Lake Winnebago. She was a member of the Cottage Owners Association at Elmwood Beach. Margene enjoyed traveling extensively including trips to Europe. Each fall she traveled by car to her winter home in Briny Breezes Mobile Home Senior Community and returned in spring to her beloved cottage on the east shore of Lake Winnebago. Over the years she was a volunteer at the EAA Convention Bureau where she met June Schaetzel, who became her dear friend. She was involved in the Friends of the Library, the Fond du Lac Senior Center, the Fond du Lac Noon Optimist Club, and belonged to LOFFS (Ladies Out for Fun Social Club). Her hobbies included gardening, reading, caring for her canine companion, Beau, and participating in church activities. Margene is survived by cousins, Thomas (Rogene) Roth, Ruth Schueffner, James Roth, Jerome Roth, Jerome Molitor, Marilyn Schmidt, Judy Watkins, Richard Oldenburg, Dollie Oldenburg Burr, and Candice Oldenburg Maggio; and other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, August 12, 2015 at 11:00 a.m.at Ballhorn Chapels, 1201 N. 8th St., Sheboygan, WI 53081. A time of visitation and support will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery. A memorial fund has been established in her name.
