Marvin Metscher

Marvin W. Metscher, age 86, of Sheboygan, died peacefully Thursday evening, December 4, 2014 after a short stay at Countryside Manor. He was born July 4, 1928 in Sheboygan Falls to Oscar and Olga (Schlichting) Metscher. He attended St. Paul's Lutheran Grade School and was a graduate of Sheboygan North High School, Class of 1946. On July 14, 1951 Marvin and Joan Metzdorf were united in marriage at Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church. For over thirty years Marvin was employed in the Sheboygan Public School System, retiring in 1990 as head custodian. Marvin and Joan enjoyed traveling extensively including trips to Hawaii and Alaska. They also liked attending events at the Stephanie J. Weill Center. In addition to his devoted wife, Joan, he is survived by his children, Jerry (Micki) Metscher of Mount Airy, NC, Susie (Ed) Heil of Plover, WI, Kristi (Dennis) Scheibl of Howards Grove, WI and Lori (Gordy) Pierret of Mequon, WI; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; his brother, Raymond Metscher of Pembine, WI; his sisters, Marion (Ed) Soch of Argonne, WI and Sharon (Grant) Mattes of Sheboygan; sisters-in-law, Annette Thimmig of Sheboygan and Betsy Metscher of Sheboygan; and other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant brother, Vernon, a brother, Harold Metscher; three sisters, Elnora (Walter) Haack, Arline (Edward) Handrow, and LaVerne (Harry) Bokunevitz. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, December 11, 2014 at Zimmer Westview Funeral and Cremation Care Center, W2132 Garton Road, Sheboygan, WI. Rev. Mark Janzen, Associate Pastor of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Sheboygan Falls, will officiate. A time of visitation and support will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. A memorial fund has been established in his name for Sheboygan County Meals on Wheels or St. Nicholas Home Health Care. Marvin's family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the caregivers at St. Nicholas Home Health Care and Countryside Manor for their kindness and support.
