Mary Jane Genske

December 19, 1937 — October 23, 2024

Sheboygan

Mary Jane Genske (Yoerin) died peacefully on October 23, 2024, surrounded by her family. Mary was born to the late Theodore Yoerin and Irene (Evans) Yoerin on December 19, 1937, in Milwaukee Wisconsin. Mary and her father moved to Wrightstown following the death of her mother. She graduated from Wrightstown High School, where she met her lifelong friend, Nell Herber. On August 22, 1959, she married the love of her life, Thomas (Tom) J. Genske at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Milwaukee. They shared 65 years together. Mary and Tom moved to Sheboygan in 1967 to raise their five children. Mary spent many years volunteering with Meals on Wheels, bringing Holy Communion to residents of Sunnyridge Nursing Home and serving as Secretary for the St. Vincent de Paul Society of Holy Name Catholic Church. She enjoyed shopping, going to lunch with friends, Bridge Club and traveling. Mary never met a dog she didn’t like. Most special to Mary were the annual trips Up North with all her children and grandchildren where they played cards, dominoes, and Banana-grams. She treasured visits with her grandchildren in the You and I cottage. In her later years, Mary was content sitting and watching the birds, hoping to spy a bright red cardinal visiting one of their bird feeders.

Mary is survived by her husband, her children: Tom (Mary) Genske of Pewaukee, Peg (Byron) Mitchell of Waukesha, Sue (Jon) Byom of Wisconsin Rapids, Jane (Mike) Widmer of Bend, Oregon, and Ted (Jess) Genske of Green Bay; grandchildren Kate (Tim) Zellmer, Annie (Patrick) Burnside, Maggie Genske, Janie Genske, Allison Byom, Sarah (Scott) Aschebrook, Michael (Kate) Widmer, Jack Widmer, Teddy (Jordan) Widmer, Lauren (Derek) Bohm and Colin Genske; great-grandchildren Sawyer, Lucy and Tate. She is further survived by her sister-in-law Chris Jorin, two of her favorite nephews, Bill Liedtke and Gary Liedtke, special niece Donna Liedtke, as well as many other nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Irene Liedtke, her brothers Robert Yoerin and Theodore Jorin, niece Peg Kreye and nephew David Liedtke.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Morningside Health for their kindness and caring in Mary’s last days and the staff at Sharon Richardson Hospice for their compassion, kindness and support given to Mary and our family.
