Mary Reyes

November 1, 1933 — August 25, 2014

Mary Angel Reyes, age 80, of Sheboygan, Wisconsin, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, August 25, 2014. She was surrounded by her husband and loved ones at the Plymouth Care Center. She was born November 1, 1933 in Los Indios, TX, a daughter of the late Luz and Soledad (Lopez) Capetillo. At the age of 14, Mary experienced a miraculous healing from God Almighty of which she embraced the Christian faith. Because she was passionate and devoted to her faith, Mary decided to attend Latin American Bible Institute (LABI) in Isleta, Texas; a suburb of El Paso, TX. Through the years the bible institute relocated to San Antonio, TX. While attending Bible School, Mary met her future husband Richard Reyes. The couple was married on February 24, 1952, in Pharr, Texas. After sharing their vows to one another, they moved to Julesburg, Colorado. Their early years of marriage, involved the beginning of her mission work in Mexico. Mary was always in tune with God and had a strong sense of ministry; living her passion by feeding the hungry, clothing the undressed, mending the broken hearted, delivering the captive and sharing God's unconditional love until her latter years. At a young age, Mary became a minister for the Midwest Latin American District of the Assemblies of God District, which she dedicated herself to over 50 years; being recognized in 2002 at the District's Annual Convention in Omaha, NE. In 1960, Mary and Richard decided to move to Sheboygan, Wisconsin where Mary was active with her husband as a pastoral associate at the Spanish Assembly of God, and later became members of the currently known Praise Fellowship Church. As of 2001, Mary became an elder and pastoral associate of her son's church - Fresh Rain Worship Center. Mary and her family spearheaded the Prison Ministry in Wisconsin in 1980. As a family, they would volunteer and perform monthly concerts and weekly Bible Studies. According to the inmates, she was considered the "Mother of Israel" because of her genuine love and being an effective and prevailing spiritual caregiver. Mary was loved and very well respected by all. In addition, Mary was a one and only homemaker. Her homemade tortillas and cooking were out of this world. Mary's pride and joy were her husband and children. She also, enjoyed sewing, gardening and doing yard work. All in all, Mary was a unique and one-of-a kind mother and servant of God. She left behind a legacy that will never be forgotten. Survivors include her loving husband of 62 years Richard V. Reyes, Sr., with their four sons and one daughter; Ricardo (Ruth) of Sheboygan, Rudy (Diana) of Jacksonville, NC, Ron (Christie) of Sheboygan Falls and Russ (Naomi) of Sheboygan, their daughter; Ruby (Javier) Garcia of Cleveland, WI, along with 16 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and two brothers and two sister-in-laws. She was preceded in death by her parents, father-in-law, mother-in-law, six brothers, three sisters, 14 sister-in-laws, seven brother-in-laws, and three nephews. Mary will be dearly missed and always loved. She was an amazing woman. Mary is also survived by other relatives and friends.
