Mary Kay Zimmer, age 84, died Tuesday, November 3, 2015 at Assisi Village, where she has been a resident for the last 2 ½ years. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, November 6, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Columbkille's Catholic Church, 1240 Rush St., Dubuque, IA. Fr. Gabriel Anderson will be celebrant. Burial will follow the Mass at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Key West. Friends may call at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the Mass on Friday. Hoffmann Schneider Funeral Home & Cremation Service is entrusted with arrangements. She was born April 7, 1931 in Glen Haven, WI., a daughter of the late Henry and Eva (Kirschbaum) May. She was a 1948 graduate of the former St. Joseph Academy. On April 19, 1952 Mary was united in marriage with Richard Zimmer at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Dubuque. Dick preceded her in death on August 3, 1997. Mary's professional career as a Bookeeper started with the Fischer Companies. In 1966 she began working with Federal Discount Corporation, and retired from Sibbings Jewelry in 1993. She was a longtime member of St. Columbkille's Parish, and was a member and volunteer of Finley Hospital Auxillary and the Stonehill Auxillary. Some of Mom's fondest memories were those of boating on the Mississippi River. Catching a big catfish, beaching the boat and living on the sandbar. She and Dick were former members of the Julien Dubuque Yacht Club and she also was a member of the Coast Guard Auxillary. Later, Mary and Dick traveled over the US, and enjoyed camping in some of our country's most beautiful parks. She also enjoyed craftmaking, cards and Dominoes with her friends. Surviving Mary are her two sons; Gary (Denise) Zimmer of Kaukauna, WI and Mark (Debra) Zimmer of Howards Grove, WI, two grandchildren, Kaitlyn and Kendra Zimmer. She is also survived by nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, Mary was also preceded in death by her brother and his wife Joseph (Irene) May and a sister and her husband; Exine (Patrick) Kirchner.
