Maxine Kolbe, age 90, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 30, 2014 at the Morningside Health Center. She was born January 24, 1924 in Charlotte, Texas, daughter of the late Emil and Mamie Stuessy. After graduating from Carrizo Springs, Texas, High School, she attended San Antonio Business School and was employed at Western Union in San Antonio. Maxine was united in marriage to Raymond Kolbe on October 1, 1947 at the Alamo Heights Methodist Church in San Antonio, Texas and then moved to Sheboygan to begin her new life, never forgetting the great state of Texas. She was employed at Wigwam Mills Inc for 30 years having retired in 1983. After retiring, one of her favorite pastime was traveling throughout the country and enjoying many road trips with Ray. She also made numerous new friends on the bus trips they shared. She enjoyed cooking and some of her favorite creations were her famous torts. She had a never ending sense of humor and was always looking to make her neighbors smile with her never-ending jokes. She had a remarkable way of remembering everyone's name and always greeted everyone by their name. After Ray passed away in 2010, she continued to make daily visits to the nursing home to visit residents. She loved to participate and assist in the activity room, winning many special prizes for her great-grandchildren. Maxine is survived by 2 sons, Jerry (Barb) of Appleton and Jeff (Karen) of Sheboygan; 5 grandchildren, Corey (Rachel) Kolbe of Appleton, Jessica (Gregg) Gushard of Saratoga Springs, Utah, Kelly (Charlie) Schmidt of Oostburg, Michael (Michelle) Huven of Kenosha, and Ross (Fiancee Megan) Huven of Appleton, nine great-grandchildren, Cameron, Carson, and Annika Kolbe, Parker, Zachary, and Nevaeh Gushard, Asher and Levi Schmidt, and Drew Huven. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her two brothers, Emil Jr and Lloyd, Maxine's family would like to give special thanks to the caring staffs at Terrace Estates and Morningside Health Center.
