Michael Zwitter

November 5, 1939 — September 2, 2015

Michael Allan Zwitter, age 75, of Sheboygan, passed away suddenly Wednesday evening, September 2, 2015 at University Hospital in Madison after being diagnosed with Burkitt Lymphoma. He was born November 5, 1939 in Milwaukee to Emil A. and Lucille (Hemke) Zwitter. He spent his childhood in Whitefish Bay. Mike was a super athalete while attending Whitefish Bay High School and graduated in 1958. He received his bachelor's and master's degrees in education followed by his administrative specialty degree from UW-Milwaukee. On December 29, 1962, Mike and Sharon Wholihan were united in marriage at St. Robert's Catholic Church in Shorewood, WI. They began their lives together living in Whitefish Bay and both teaching. In 1970, Mike and Sharon moved to Sheboygan. Mike began his administrative career as the Assistant Principal and Athletic Director at Sheboygan North High School, where he was fondly known as "Mafia Mike". He had a passion for working with middle school children and was lucky to become the Assistant Principal at Horace Mann Middle School in 1985. He retired from the Sheboygan Area School District in 2001 and accepted a position as Interim Principal at Howards Grove Middle School. His love for education and working with students continued as he worked as a substitute teacher until his death. He was a faithful member of St. Clement Catholic Parish. He also enjoyed memberships at the Sheboygan Elk's Lodge #299, the Sheboygan YMCA, and his second home, Town & Country Golf Club. Mike had a passion for all sports. He was known as "The Commish" for the Tuesday traveling golf group, for organizing his annual Ryderless Cup golf outing, and getting "the group" together for fish on Friday nights. He was a die-hard Green Bay Packer fan, Wisconsin Badger fan, and had a never ending loyalty to Sheboygan North High athletics. Above all, the pride and joy of his life were his grandchildren. In addition to his loving wife, Sharon, he is survived by his daughter, Heidi (Patrick) Casey and their children, Makenzie and Graham of Middleton, WI; his son, Kevin (Shannon) Zwitter and their children, Hannah and Ashton of Appleton, WI; his brother, Thomas (Rebecca) Zwitter of Geneva, IL; his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Gary and Kathleen Piper of Appleton, WI and other relatives and countless friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his in-laws, Edward and Mary Wholihan; his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Stephen and Marcia Wholihan, and their son Michael Wholihan. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, September 11, 2015 at St. Clement Catholic Church. Rev. Matthew Widder, Pastor, will be the Celebrant. A time of visitation and support will be held on Thursday, September 10, 2015 at Ballhorn Funeral Chapels from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and at the church Friday morning from 10:30 a.m. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in his name for the Mike Zwitter Scholarship Fund and St. Clement Catholic Church. His family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you for the endless outpouring of love and support during this most difficult time. Although he is no longer with us, Mike's complete zest for life and unselfish heart will forever be a part of us and all whose lives he's touched.
