Nellie J. Laack, 99, of Sheboygan, passed away Sunday, April 28, 2013 at Morningside Health Center where she was a resident. Nellie was born on February 19, 1914, a daughter of the late Leo and Mary (Zore) Pragalz. After attending Holy Name Grade School and Sheboygan Vocational School, she worked at Vollrath Company. On May 27, 1944, she married Willard R. Laack in Sheboygan. He preceded her in death on June 27, 1975. Together they operated taverns in Sheboygan for many years, including Laack's Bar at 2335 N. 15th Street and the North Star Tavern on 8th and Mayflower. She also worked at City Bakery and Johnston Bakery. Nellie was a member of Ss. Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church, The American Slovenian Catholic Union and the K.S.K.J. Queen of May Society. She enjoyed cooking, gardening and time spent with family. After retirement, she went on bus trips to nearby casinos and performances by The Jolly Slovenians polka band. She especially enjoyed her trip to Yugoslavia to visit her parents' homeland and trips to California to visit her daughter's family. Survivors include her son, Thomas (Donna) Laack, Sheboygan; daughter, Janet (James) Black, Ventura, CA; four grandchildren, Darci (Stephan) Nolten, Wauwatosa, Amy (Scott) Barton, Gilberts, IL, Daniel Black (fiance' Marie-Sonja Cotineau), Chicago, IL and Jeremy Black (Elizabeth Turner) Santa Barbara, CA; two great-grandchildren, Jack and Thomas Barton and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by four sisters, Frances (Fanny) Rothe, Dorothy Millington, infant sisters, Augusta and Hedwig and one brother, Frank Pragalz. A funeral service for Nellie will be held on Saturday, May 4, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Zimmer's Westview Funeral and Cremation Care Center (Hwy 42 & JJ, Howards Grove) with the Rev. Paul Fliss officiating. Friends may call on Saturday, at the funeral home, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Sheboygan. A memorial fund in Nellie's name has been established for Ss. Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church.
