Norman Voigt

Norman Frederick Voigt, age 96, of Sheboygan, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 22, 2014 at Sheboygan Senior Community. He was born March 8, 1918 in Sheboygan to Paul and Ella (Zerger) Voigt. He attended Bethlehem Lutheran Grade School and was a graduate of Sheboygan Central High School, Class of 1935. On April 26, 1941 Norman and Frieda Wagner were united in marriage at Trinity Lutheran Church. For eighteen years following retirement Norman and Frieda wintered in Arizona. Frieda was a gracious hostess who loved entertaining while Norman complimented things with his gift of conversation and storytelling. After seventy-two years of marriage, Frieda preceded him in death on November 15, 2012. In 1942 Norman enlisted in the US Army stationed in Texarkana, TX, serving with the 541 Ord. Co. Hm. 3rd Division during WW II. Following his discharge he became the proprietor of Voigt's Service Station located on 7th St. and Wisconsin Ave in Sheboygan. In 1978 his station relocated to Calumet Dr. and Norman retired in 1982 after nearly forty years. Norman was a faithful member of Trinity Lutheran Church where he served in many positions, including on the Church Council, Board of Elders, Board of Education, and as an usher. He was a life member of the Sheboygan Evening Lion's Club where he held the record for the most roses sold for their Mother's Day sale. He was a member of the American Legion, the American Luther Association, served fifty years on the board for Morning Meditations, and many years on the planning committee for the Reformation Rally held at the Sheboygan Armory. He was a former Scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop #44 and a former Cubmaster of Pack #44. He played baseball for Kingsbury's Semi-Pro Team and for the American Legion Baseball Team. He was also a member of the Wisconsin Gasoline Dealer Association. Norman is survived by two daughters, Carol Anderson of Worthington, Ohio and Ruth (Andrew) Hering of Sheboygan; four grandsons, Paul (Julia) Anderson of Hilliard, Ohio, Michael (Melissa) Anderson of Cincinnati, Ohio, Greg Hering of Sheboygan, and Scott (Lauren) Hering of Port Washington, WI; seven great-grandchildren, Hannah, Ella, Lucas, Joshua, Molly, Max, and Sloane; many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. In addition to his wife, Frieda, he was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Ella, his sister, Lillian Voigt, his sister and brother-in-law, Marion and Pastor John Deterding. and his son-in-law, David Anderson. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, November 28, 2014 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 824 Wisconsin Avenue, Sheboygan. Rev. John Berg, Associate Pastor of Trinity Lutheran Church, will officiate. Burial will follow at Lutheran Cemetery. A time of visitation and support will be held at the church from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service. A memorial fund has been established in his name for Trinity Lutheran Church Organ Fund. Norman's family would like to thank the staff at Sheboygan Senior Community for making his last year with them so comfortable and happy. Norman was a faithful Lutheran and a devoted husband and father who will be dearly missed.
