Paul Strains

Paul L. Strains age 95, passed away quietly at his home on Saturday, May 7, 2016. Paul was born on April 23, 1921 in Michigan to George and Mary (Ottensman) Strains. He was a 1940 graduate of Sheboygan Central High School, then worked at the Garton Toy Company. Paul proudly served his country in the US Army Air Force. On February 23, 1946 Paul was united in marriage to Gertrude Guenther at St. Peter Claver. Paul worked with his brother Ed at Strains Decorating Co. Later on he started Professional Paint and Glass, where he retired in 1987.
One of Paul's greatest passions was golfing at Town and Country. He also enjoyed baseball, horseshoes and playing the harmonica. Paul was an active member of St. John's UCC Brotherhood. He was very giving of his time and talents to family and friends. Paul and Gertie took pleasure in traveling around the country to visit family.
Paul is survived by; five children, Peter (Shelly) Strains of Sheboygan Falls, Paula Strains of Sheboygan, Patricia (Lloyd) Buckner of West Allis, WI, Pamela (Mike) Rude of Stacy, MN and Peggy (Reed) Owens of Damascus, MD; six grandchildren, Kiel (Holly) Pohl, Danielle and Nicole Owens, Sarah, Dawn and Isabelle Rude. Also survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Paul is preceded in death by infant son, Scott; beloved wife Gertie; three brothers and four sisters.
A time of gathering and support will be held at St. John UCC, 1248 Lincoln Ave., Sheboygan on Wednesday, May 11 from 3:00 PM - 4:00 PM. A Memorial Service will follow at 4:00 PM with Rev. Greg Whelton presiding. Burial will take place at Wildwood Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in his name for The Gathering Place, St. Paul Lutheran Church, Sheboygan Falls.
Gratitude to Rev. Greg Whelton for his friendship with Paul through the years. Sincere thanks to Kathy S., Theresa G., Patti P., Tanya R., Britney, and the staff at Heartland Hospice for their care and support. Also a special thank you to Carol, Leah and all the loving friends at The Gathering Place where he laughed, joked and inspired others with Alzheimer's.
