Raymond Ray K. Zittel, age 97, of Sheboygan, passed away Tuesday morning, December 8, 2015 to be at home with his Lord and Savior. He was born February 26, 1918, in Sheboygan, the son of Christ and Rose (Brack) Zittel. He was a graduate of Sheboygan High School, Class of 1937. While there he played football for four years. On August 16, 1996 he married Barb (Kraatz) Edens in Sheboygan. Ray was a member of Christ Lutheran Church where he served as an usher. He was employed at Kohler Co. from 1939 until 1949. He served as a firefighter with the Sheboygan Fire Department from 1949 until 1960. He owned and operated Ra-Lenes Beauty Salon from 1952 until 1967. Ray enjoyed hunting and fishing. At the age of three he began his speed skating career on a pair of double bladed ice skates. He won various city, county, and state championships. During this time he accumulated fourteen gold and silver medals and numerous cups and trophies. Other interests included membership in Farmers and Sportsmens Club and the Sheboygan Area Yacht Club where he enjoyed sailing his boat. Ray was also a member of the Sheboygan Snowmobile Club and served as one of its presidents. He was an avid golfer and in later years golfed with The Legends. In addition to his wife, Barb, with whom he has been married for nineteen years, he is survived by a son, Thomas and his family and many extended family members. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his infant son, Jerome; his step-mother, Elly Zittel; his daughter-in-law, Shirley Zittel; and a brother. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, December 11, 2015 at Christ Lutheran Church, 3816 S. 12th St., Sheboygan, WI 53081. Rev. Dana Loney, Pastor, will officiate. A time of visitation and support will be held at the church from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will follow at Wildwood Cemetery.
