Richard Hartmann

November 28, 1933 — August 21, 2014

Richard, born to Peter and Malinda (Capelle) Hartmann on November 28, 1933, passed away on Thursday, August 21, 2014, with his faithful longtime companion, Diane Andersen at his side. After graduation from Sheboygan North High School in 1952 he took employment with the United States Civilian Corps of Engineers sounding harbors on the western shores of Lake Michigan. His next move was to become a lineman with the General Telephone Company of Wisconsin, working out of Plymouth, WI. During that period, he entered into the service of his country and became a proud member of the 101st Airborne Division as a paratrooper with the unique experience of getting his first ride in an airplane and having to jump from it. Among his many other treasured experiences were the moments he spent with Commander of the 101st, Gen. Wm. Westmoreland, and Commander of the United States 5th Army, Gen. Wm. H. Arnold. Shortly after Richard's honorable discharge from the US Army, he followed in his father's footsteps and became an electrician working for various contractors - all the while affiliated with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. Richard was content that he led a full life, one that included serving as Deacon when a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church; being a longtime member and officer of the Sheboygan County Taxpayer's Alliance; many trips to the Atlantic and Pacific shores of Mexico, and the islands of the Caribbean. Other pleasures included the feeding the birds and other small animals that frequented his back yard - some of which would eat from his hand; cooking; becoming a self-taught sushi maker; and growing tomatoes and peppers. Survivors include: Companion, Diane, Sons, Greg, Jeff and Matt, all of Sheboygan, and brothers, William of Oxnard, CA, and Peter, of the Milwaukee area; plus numerous cousins, nephews, nieces, and friends. Predeceased include his father and mother and a brother, Roger. As per Richard's wishes, a small family observance will be held at the final resting place of his cremains at Greenlawn Memorial Park, Kohler, WI. A memorial fund has been established in Richard's name with the Sheboygan County Humane Society as recipient.
