Robert Duchow

July 6, 1919 — December 31, 2015

Robert A. O. Duchow, 96, passed into his eternal home on December 31, 2015 at the Sunny Ridge Health Center.
Born July 6, 1919 in Sheboygan, Robert was the youngest of Albert and Elsie (Boenisch) Duchows six children. He attended Immanuel Lutheran Grade School and was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church.
He was employed at Frost Veneer prior to serving in the US Navy Construction Battalion (CBs) in the Pacific Theatre during WW II. Upon returning to Sheboygan, he worked as a heavy equipment repairman for the Sheboygan County Highway Department until 1960, when he became an aluminum frame fabricator for the Sheboygan Glass Company, until his retirement in 1986. He was a hard worker and dedicated to doing a quality job with each project completed.
On June 19, 1948, Robert married Lilly Hoppe of Sheboygan at Trinity Lutheran Church, a church they faithfully attended and supported. Bob built the family home at 40th and Main Avenue in 1955, raising his family and living there until 2008 when he and Lilly moved to Sunny Ridge. Lilly preceded him in death on November 13, 2013 after 65 years of marriage.
Robert will always be remembered for his love of gardening and the 350 tomato seedlings along with other vegetables he planted each spring for sale to his loyal customers. He also enjoyed watching purple martins return to his yard each year, listening to country music, and in his younger years, roller dancing. Bob was a multi-gallon blood donor for the American Red Cross.
Survivors include two sons and daughter-in-law, Dennis (Sue) Duchow and Mark Duchow of Sheboygan; grandsons, Andy (Rachael), Kurt, and Connor; great-grandchildren, Noah and Liza; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Donald and Elaine Hoppe; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, Lilly, Bob was preceded in death by twin brothers, Elmer and Harold and sisters, Gertrude Gorman, Vernetta Bauer, and Dorothy Reimer.
The Duchow family appreciates the compassionate care provided to Robert by the staff of Sunny Ridge throughout his stay as a resident.
A memorial service for Robert will be held Wednesday, January 6th at 1:00 p.m. in the Sunny Ridge Chapel with the Rev. Timothy J. Mech, Senior Pastor of Trinity Lutheran Church officiating. Family and friends are welcome to visit with the Duchows one hour prior to the service. A private burial will take place at Lutheran Cemetery.
Memorials have been established in Roberts name for Trinity Lutheran Church or for Alzheimers Association of Greater Wisconsin, 2900 Curry Ln., Green Bay, WI 54311.
