Robert J. Eldridge, age 81, of Sheboygan, went home to his Lord on Thursday morning, July 9, 2015 after a ten year battle with dementia. He was born October 22, 1933 in New Holstein, WI to Lawrence and Alice (Teuber) Eldridge. After attending local schools he enlisted in the US Army and served in Korea. On June 30, 1956 Robert and Joan E. Horneck were united in marriage at Ebenezer Lutheran Church. They enjoyed many trips with their family. They also volunteered delivering for Meals on Wheels in Sheboygan. Joan preceded him in death on May 8, 2010 after fifty-three wonderful years of marriage. For a number of years Robert was employed at Verifine Dairy then at Lake to Lake Dairy for twenty years until their closure. He then began employment at Kohler Co. until his retirement in 1998. During his career he also drove bus for Prigge's and Sheboygan Transit which he truly enjoyed. Robert was a faithful member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Sheboygan. He was also a member of the VFW Post #9156. Robert was an avid walker and enjoyed camping in the outdoors with his family and friends. He had a great sense of humor and brought smiles to everyone he met. Robert was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend to all. He is survived by his son, Clifford (Mary) Eldridge of Sheboygan; his daughter, Julie (Larry) Schoemer of Oostburg; three grandchildren, Jason (Adrienne) Eldridge of St. Paul, MN, Lisa (Fred) Fritchen of Sheboygan, and Stephanie Zill of Oostburg; three great-grandchildren, Hudson, Taylor, and Avery; and other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his grandson, Cory Zill; four sisters, Audrey Beck, June Beck, Myrtle Woods, and Crystal Pool; and one brother, Lawrence Eldridge. Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 16, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 1810 N. 13th St., Sheboygan, WI. Rev. Alan Kretschmar, Pastor, will be the officiant. A time of visitation and support will be held on Wednesday, July 15, 2015 at Ballhorn Funeral Chapels from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and at the church Thursday morning from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Burial with full military honors will follow at Lutheran Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in his name. Robert's family would like to express a heartfelt thank-you to the entire staff at Meadow View Manor and Cedar Grove Gardens as well as all of his wonderful in-home caregivers.
