Robert A. Schroeder

July 26, 1925 — March 9, 2025

Sheboygan Falls

Robert A. Schroeder, age 99, of Sheboygan Falls peacefully entered his heavenly home on Sunday, March 9th, 2025. He was born on July 26, 1925, to German parents William and Martha (Duening) Schroeder. Bob grew up in Sheboygan attending Immanuel Lutheran Church and school until 6th grade. His family then moved to Six Corners, and with no buses at the time, his father would drop him off at the Our Town Cheese Factory, where he first met Evelyn, the woman who would later become his wife. He continued his education at Sheboygan Falls High School, commuting in a 1929 Model A Ford that his father bought him.

After high school, Bob enlisted in the United States Army Air Force Cadet Pilot Training Program. At just 18, he earned his wings at a B-25 bomber pilot and was commissioned as an officer in 1945. While serving he wrote letters to Evelyn and during visits home he would always go by her, he knew she was the one he wanted to marry.

Following his service, Bob worked for Kohler before attending the University of Wisconsin-Madison under the GI Bill earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering. He then embarked on a 36-year career at Kohler Co., specializing in electrical controls for generators. Bob and Evelyn married on June 14, 1947 while he was in his senior year of college.

A devoted husband and father Bob and Evelyn built their first home together and later constructed their permanent home with the help of family and friends. They raise two sons, Larry and Gary. Bob had a knack for fixing things, becoming and authorized Lionel Service Station operator for 55 years, and building an impressive O Gauge train layout. He also took pride in repairing cars and tackling home projects.

Bob and Evelyn were passionate travelers, taking road trips across the U.S. including a drive on the Alaska Highway, and visiting countries such as England, Norway, Sweden, Germany, Switzerland, France, China, Japan and Russia. They were avid golfers with Evelyn even achieving a hole-in-one.

Faith was central to Bob’s life. He served as head elder, recording secretary, and usher at the Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer before transferring to St. Paul in Sheboygan Falls. He contributed to the church through woodworking projects and was active in Bible study.

Bob’s life was one of dedication to his family, his faith, his work, and his many passions. He was a man of integrity, resourcefulness, and kindness. His love for life and unwavering faith were gifts to all who knew him. He will be deeply missed.

Robert is survived by his sons, Larry (MaryJo) Schroeder and Gary (Carol) Schroeder; grandchildren, Jessica (Jim) Bosovic and Jason (Andrea) Schroeder; great-grandchildren, Lily and Cara; nephews Rick and Ken (Tina) Yurk; and niece Kay Yurk.
