Rogene Schmidt

Rogene C. Schmidt, age 90, passed away Friday, May 2, 2014 at Terrace Estates. She was born in Sheboygan, May 31, 1923 to her late parents, Oscar and Ida (Haack) Thiel. Rogene was baptized and confirmed at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Haven. She was united in marriage on July 26, 1941 to Roy Schmidt. Rogene worked at Vollrath Company until her and Roy took over the family farm. She was well known for her great cooking, sewing, quilting and her willingness to help others. Rogene was a member of the Women's Guild, and former member of the Edward's Homemakers in Manitowoc County. She was a wonderful; wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and will be sadly missed. Rogene is survived by four children; Ronald (Wendy) Schmidt, Connie (Andrew) Hahn, Larry Schmidt, and James (friend Roxanne Nauth) Schmidt, nine grandchildren; Andrew Hahn, Angela (Micah) Hahn-Stupak, Aaron (Danyelle) Hahn, Rachel Schmidt, Jesse, Jeremy, Michelle Schmidt, Ashley (A.J.) Heiling and Justin (friend Samantha) Schmidt, three great-grandchildren; Aiden, Lila and Ivy. Also survived by her brother; Merlin Thiel, two sisters; Evelyn Meinnert and Carol Mae Blazic, two sister-in-laws; Arline Thiel, Alice Schmidt, many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Preceded in death by her husband Roy on July 20, 1986, son Donald, granddaughter Melissa Hahn, four brothers; Harold, Harry (Esther), Norbert (Doris) and Oscar Jr., two sisters; Helen (Edgar) Mercier, and Viola (Walter Bender) (Arno) Huhn, and numerous brothers and sisters-in-law. Visitation on Monday, May 5, from 4:00 PM - 7:00 PM at St. John UCC - Schwarzwald, W3401 Orchard Road, Elkhart Lake. Continued visitation at church on Tuesday, May 6 from 10:00 AM - 11:00 AM. Funeral Service at 11:00 AM with Rev. Robert Hamilton presiding. Burial to follow in the Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials are appreciated to the church. A special thanks to all the caregivers at Terrace Place for all of their care and support.
