Roger K. Breirather, age 82, of Sheboygan died at St. Nicholas Hospital on February 14, 2023.
He was born in Sheboygan on June 9, 1940, to the late Leo and Beulah (Gosch) Breirather.
Roger was confirmed at St. John’s Evangelical and Reformed Church on Palm Sunday, 1954. He attended the old Mapledale Elementary School on Sheboygan’s northwest-side and graduated from Central High School, class of 1959. On January 7, 1961, Roger married Mary C. Behnke in Sheboygan. The couple recently observed their 62nd wedding anniversary. Roger was known as “The King” as a material handler, driving a fork-lift at Thomas Industries for 42 years, retiring in 2002. Roger rarely missed a day of work, he was a very dependable man. He suffered a major stroke in 2012 which left him with apraxia.
Roger enjoyed boating, long walks, ham radio, listening to music and sports broadcasts, visiting amusement parks, and taking the family out to the games and street cars. He was a fan of the old Milwaukee Braves, Green Bay Packers, Milwaukee Brewers, Admirals, Bucks, Sheboygan A’s, and the old Sheboygan Indians. He also enjoyed sharing his home throughout his years with his special pets, Brewer, Ginger and Precious.
Surviving Roger is his wife, Mary; their four children, Sandra (special friend Jim Strean) Breirather, Ken (Jodilyn) Breirather, Joann (Tom) Schmidt, and Leann Breirather; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; sister, Candy (John P.) Vandekreeke; step-sisters, Kathy (Jerry) Koellner, Karen (Peter) Markelz, Mary (Joel) Kuether, and Cheryl Heim; his sisters-in-laws, Carolyn Uraynar and Rosie Rogge and brothers-in-law, Fred (Bonnie) Behnke and Mike Behnke.
Roger was preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Beulah and two step-moms, Jean and Viola and a brother Alan B. Breirather.
A Funeral Service for Roger will be held at NOON on Monday, February 20, 2023, at Ballhorn Chapels Funeral and Cremation Care Center, 1201 N 8th St. in Sheboygan, with Deacon Mike Burch officiating. Family will greet visitors on Monday at the funeral home from 11:00 AM until the time of the service. He will be laid to rest at Wildwood Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Roger’s name.
The family would like to thank the Sheboygan Fire and Rescue Department and the staff at St. Nicholas Hospital for the excellent care given to Roger.
