Ronald F. Melanz, age 84, passed away at home Monday, June 1, 2015. He was born on July 17, 1930 in Sheboygan, Wisconsin to Fredrick and Hilda (Lutz) Melanz. He attended St. Peter Claver Catholic School and graduated from Central High School. He was united in marriage to Carole M. Goetsch on December 27, 1952 at St. Dominic Church. Ron proudly served in the U. S. Air Force from 1951-1955. After his discharge from the Air Force, he worked at various jobs until being employed by Schreier Malting where he remained until his retirement. After retirement he worked at Morningside Terrace and Pick ‘n Save. His love of music began at 8 years old when his father bought him an accordian. Self taught, his musical talent is still remembered fondly by many of his admirers. While in high school his band, The Starlighters, had a show on WHBL radio sponsored by the South 12th Street merchants. He entertained at many weddings in and around Sheboygan. His later group, We Three Trio, performed for many years at Town & Country Supper Club and Durward's Flamingo Club. People came from surrounding areas to dance to their music. An avid fan of Frank Yankovic, Ronnie actually shared the stage with Mr. Yankovic during a Sheboygan appearance. Ronnie was often referred to as Sheboygan's Yankovic. In addition to his music, Ron enjoyed golfing, bowling, fishing, and as a young man, playing baseball. He also took great pleasure in spending time with his brothers-in-law including their trips Up North and to Milwaukee. Ron is survived by his wife of 62 years, Carole "Boots"; children Ronald J. (Corinne), Derick J. (Donna), Randall J. (special friend, Nancy Herzog), Robin J. (special friend, Sylvia Sircelj), and Melodi A. (Jeffrey) Tamminga; two brothers-in-law Don Goetsch and Jack Goetsch; three sisters-in-law Betty Goetsch, Elaine Goetsch, and Carol Goetsch; eight grandchildren Anna, Dana, Ronald J., Jr., Douglas, Michael, Daniel, David, and Ryan; and two great-granddaughters Lily and Kelsey. He is further survived by many cousins, nephews, nieces and friends. In addition to his parents, Ron was preceded in death by his father-in-law and mother-in-law Elmer and Esther Goetsch; three brothers-in-law Tony Prisland, Duane Goetsch, and Jerry Goetsch; two sisters-in-law Gloria Prisland and Jean Goetsch; and infant daughter, Mary Jo. A memorial service will be held on Monday, June 8 at 5:00 p.m. at Ballhorn Funeral Chapels & Crematory, 1201 North 8th Street, with Chaplain Robert Bledsoe of Aurora at Home officiating. A time of visitation and support will be held from 3:00 p.m. until the time of service, followed by full military honors. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in his name. The family would like to thank the staff at DaVita Dialysis, Aurora Hospice VNA, Karen, and Pastor Bob.
