Sam C. Lind, age 88, of Cleveland, WI passed away peacefully Monday morning, November 16, 2015 at St. Josephs Hospital in West Bend. Sam was born September 4, 1927 in Escanaba, MI to Edwin and Agnes (Kirch) Lind. Sam was the eldest of five children and grew up in Rapid River, MI. After graduation from Rapid River High School he enlisted in the US Marine Corp where he was honorably discharged after four years. He spent many years pursuing his goal of higher education, which was later achieved with a PhD from Indiana University. The majority of his working years were spent as a professor at colleges across the Midwest. On June 18, 1955 Sam and Rosemary Lehman were united in marriage in Hampshire, IL. The couple had three children, Nancy (Mark) Lustig of Jackson, WI, David (Roxanne) Lind of Allenton, WI and Janet (Dan) Syverson of Minnetrista, MN; six grandchildren, Matthew Lustig, Eric Lind, Jessica (Dylan) Tucker, Brianna Lustig, Adam Syverson, and Kayla Syverson. Sam is further survived by his sister, Dolores Lind, and his brother, Gordon (Louise) Lind. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Sue (Dick) Schogren and Marion (Dewey) St. Cyr. Sam enjoyed being outdoors and the solitude of the north woods where the family cabin served as a gathering place for many years. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 24, 2015 at St. Dominic Catholic Church by Rev. Phil Reifenberg, Pastor. A time of visitation and support will be held at the church from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Gary Herdrich and the MCU nurses at St. Josephs Hospital for their comfort and care to Sam and his family.
