Sean A. Zempel, age 16, died tragically Tuesday, March 1, 2016 as the result of a traffic accident.
He was born March 1, 2000 in Sheboygan to Kurt and Carrie (Ahlquist) Zempel. He was a student in the dual language program at both Sheridan Elementary School and Horace Mann Middle School. Currently he was a sophomore at Sheboygan South High School where he was a member of the cross country and swim teams and played viola in the school orchestra.
In 2013 Sean achieved the rank of Eagle Scout and served as a counselor at Bear Paw Scout Camp for the past two summers. He enjoyed running triathlons with his dad, completing several events over the last three years, and finished his first marathon with his family in May of 2015.
Sean was an active member of First United Lutheran Church where he served as an usher and assisted in worship activities in many ways, including playing viola for the blended and contemporary worship services.
In addition to his loving parents, he is survived by his brother, Ian; his maternal grandparents, Randy and Jo Ahlquist of Stockbridge; his paternal grandparents, Dennis and Cathy Zempel of Crivitz and Barbara Zempel of Sheboygan; his uncles, Mark (Lisa) Zempel of Acworth, GA, and Matthew Zempel of Eau Claire; his dear friend, Darcy Bossler; other family members and countless friends.
Sean was preceded in death by his paternal great-grandmother, Dawn Zempel, whom he chose to pin on his Eagle Award.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 5, 2016 at 5:00 p.m. at First United Lutheran Church, 2401 Kohler Memorial Drive, Sheboygan. Rev. Todd W. Smith, Pastor, will officiate. A time of visitation and support will be held at the church from 2:30 p.m. until the time of service.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in his name.Sean will always be remembered as the most thoughtful and hardworking person who truly embodied the principles of Scouting and his faith.He could not have been a better son, brother, or friend.
