Shirley DeSombre

Shirley J. DeSombre, age 77, of Howards Grove, passed away suddenly on Thursday February 27, 2014 at Aurora Memorial Medical Center from complications of cancer. She was born October 3, 1936 in Sheboygan, a daughter of the late Ulrich and Ruth (Wernecke) Zogg. Shirley was a 1954 graduate of Sheboygan Central High School. While pursuing her Nursing Degree, she was stricken with polio, and put her nursing career on hold. On January 18, 1958 Shirley was united in marriage to Kenneth C. DeSombre at the Ebenezer United Church of Christ in Sheboygan. Ken preceded her in death on April 4, 2012. Shirley worked at Aurora Memorial Medical Center in Medical Records until her retirement in 1999. Ken and Shirl spent much of their time with family and loved to attend their grandchildren's various events. In their retirement, she and Ken enjoyed traveling, spending time with family and attending sporting events. Surviving Shirley are three daughters, Vicki (Richard) Hemb of rural Cleveland, Tami (Keith) Rooker of Howards Grove and Traci (Keith) Hiebing of Town Herman; grandchildren, Nathan (Sara) Dassow, Kalli (Joseph) Holzwart, Greta (Joseph) McDonald, Brandon Rooker and Brittani Rooker, Tiffani (Matthew) Trumm, Alyssa (Joshua) McDonald; great-grandchildren, Isabelle, Xander, Soren, Davyn, Finley, Roanan, Nolan, Nina, Riley and Bentley; a sister, Joanne (Glenn) Wernecke of Sun City AZ and a brother-in-law, Eugene (Nancy) DeSombre of Oak Park, IL. Shirley is further survived by other relatives and many friends. A Funeral Service will be conducted for Shirley on Thursday March 6, 2014 at 7:00 p.m. at Zimmer's Westview Funeral & Cremation Care Center, (W2132 Garton Road, Sheboygan). Reverend Frederick R. Trost, interim pastor of Immanuel U.C.C. will officiate. Interment will be in the Immanuel Cemetery, town of Herman. Friends may call on the family at Westview on Thursday from 3 p.m. until the time of the service. A memorial fund has been established for the Vince Lombardi Cancer Center and Howard's Grove Children's Center. Both Shirl and Ken always enjoyed children and being part of the lives of all the children attending at the Center throughout the years. The family wishes to thank the many kind and loving staff members at Pine Haven Christian Home, Harvest Home and Aurora Memorial Medical Center. Also a special thank you to Dr. Remmington for his heartfelt concern in caring for our mother.
