Shirley Gorter

Shirley M. Gorter, 83, of Sheboygan, passed away on November 3, 2016 at Country Side Manor in Sheboygan. She was born September 7, 1933 in Sheboygan to Jacob and Mary (Gessl) Menzer.
Shirley attended Holy Name Grade School and graduated from North High School with the class of 1951. On January 16, 1954, she was united in marriage to Lawrence "Larry" Gorter at Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church. Larry preceded her in death on August 27, 2014. They relocated to Milwaukee where Shirley was an assistant manager for the Bartz Party Stores, retiring in 1996. After retiring Shirley and Larry returned to Sheboygan. They were members of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, where Shirley was very active with the women's group.
Family was very important to Shirley, she loved spending time with them and was always there when they needed her. She also enjoyed decorating the house for the various holidays, flower arranging and ceramics. She is truly loved and missed by her family and friends.
Shirley is survived by her daughters; Laura (Bill) Daher of Independence, and Linda (Mark) Norman of FL, by her grandchildren; Nicole (Kevin) Newville of New Richmond, Will ( Shawna) Daher of Roberts, Mark ( Tabby) Norman II of Winston-Salem, NC, and Krystle Norman of Indianapolis, IN, great-grandchildren; Jake and Elizabeth Norman of Winston-Salem, NC and Marie Newville of New Richmond, she is further survived by her sisters-in-law; Wilma Gorter , Joyce Gorter both of Sheboygan, and Carol Gorter of Menomonee Falls, and by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Larry, sister Phyllis Menzer, brothers-in-law William and John Gorter and sister-in-law Anita Gorter.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 19, 2016 at 11:00 AM at Ballhorn Chapels Funeral & Cremation Care Center, 1201 N. 8th St. Sheboygan, with Deacon Michael Burch officiating. Relatives and friends may visit with the family on Saturday, November 19, 2016 from 10:00 AM until the time of service at the FUNERAL HOME.
Memorials may be made to either Aurora Hospice, Heartland Hospice or the Alzheimer's Association in Shirley's name.
"Shirley's family would like to thank the staff at Countryside Manor for the care and friendship they gave to her over the past few years. It meant a great deal to her that you took the time to visit with her and share your lives with her."
