Shirley Kautzer

Shirley Grace Kautzer, 86, of Sheboygan passed away peacefully Wednesday, October 1, 2014 at Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice Center. Shirl was born in Kenosha on February 7, 1928 to the late Calixtus (Cal) and Nina (Whitbeck) Holland. She graduated from Bradford High School. On September 7, 1946 she married LeRoy Kautzer. Shirl was employed as a certified nursing assistant at St. Nicholas Hospital until her retirement. Shirl enjoyed oil painting, knitting, reading, gardening, walking, studying history, and writing poetry. Shirl was a volunteer at the Heritage School in Sheboygan, Sheboygan Historical Research Center, St. Nicholas Hospital Auxiliary, and Meals on Wheels. She was a member of the John Michael Arts Center and Plymouth Arts Center. Shirl was survived by her six children, Lorin of Sheboygan, Dale (Jeanne) of Plymouth, Keary (Jane) of Sheboygan, David of Cascade, Lynn of N. Fond du Lac, Denise of Sheboygan; five grandchildren, Scott (Kristen) Kautzer, Sarah (Jasen) Rydzewski, Stephen (fiancé Alyssa Klug) Kautzer, Kelly (Bob) Schmidt, Matthew (Megan) Kautzer ; ten great-grandchildren, Cameron and Liam Kautzer, Nadia and Heyden Kautzer, Allison and Ava Rydzewski, Max, Mason and Lennon Schmidt, Aubrey Kautzer; one brother Jim (Janet) Holland of Princeton; 5 step-grandchildren, Zachariah, Elijah, Caleb, Ezekiel, Naomi; 11 step-great grandchildren, Tristan, Trent, Kyra, Isaiah, Dante, Caden, Jaymz, Brody, Althea, Kyrstyn, Izabella; one step-great-great-grandson Jace; and many other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents and husband, Shirl was preceded in death by her two brothers Burr (Erma) Holland and George (Marlene) Holland, her sister Calista (Lattimer) Correa, and her grandson James (J.D.) Kautzer, and a son-in-law Michael Hannah. A Mass of Christian Burial to celebrate Shirl's life will be held on Monday October 6, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Dominic's Catholic Church, 2133 N 22nd Street in Sheboygan with Father Carlos Zapata as celebrant. Entombment will follow at Gardens of Peace Mausoleum in the Town of Sheboygan.Relatives and friends may call at the Church on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the Mass. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established in her name. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the entire staff at the Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice Center and Sunny Ridge Nursing Home for all of their care and compassion that they gave to Shirl and the entire family.
