Vernon H. Witt, age 88, of Sheboygan, died Monday, September 1, 2014 at Aurora Sheboygan Memorial Medical Center. He was born December 29, 1925 in Manitowoc to Reuben and Amanda (Janke) Witt. He attended Wilson Jr. High School and was a graduate of Manitowoc Lincoln High School, Class of 1944. Following graduation Vern served his country in the US Navy, stationed in Pensacola, FL. He also attended Lawrence University in Appleton. On May 17, 1947 Vern and Shirley (Schuler) were united in marriage at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Manitowoc. Vern was employed at Wisconsin Bell Telephone Co as a computer technician, retiring in 1985. Vern loved to fish, play cribbage, go to the farmer's market, collect stamps and coins, and watch wrestling. He was very involved with outdoor conservation issues and held memberships with the NRA, Crystal Lake Sportsman's Club, Sheboygan River Basin Authority, and the Sheboygan Marsh Committee, and the Sheboygan County Historical Research Center. He was a life member of American Philatelic Society, a held memberships with the American Numismatic Association, the Sheboygan Stamp Club, the Sheboygan Coin Club, the Midwest Revenue Study Group, the American Revenue Association and an IBNS member. In addition to his wife, Shirley, he is survived by three sons, Allan Witt of Sheboygan, Randy Witt of Rhinelander, and Richard Witt of Asheville, North Carolina; his grandson, Adam (Angie) Witt of Sheboygan; and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his brother, Robert Witt. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, September 8, 2014 at Ballhorn Chapels & Crematory. Deacon Michael Burch will be the officiant. A time of visitation and support will be held from 12 noon until the time of service after which military honors will take place. A memorial fund has been established in his name.
