Viola Burkhardt

Viola Pauline Marie Burkhardt passed away Monday, November 27, 2017 at Sunny Ridge Health and Rehabilitation Center, her home of the last 2 years. She was 99 years old.
Vi was born July 2, 1918 in Sheboygan, the daughter of Adolf and Flora (nee Goedblood) Burkhardt. She graduated from Sheboygan High School in 1936. During high school, Vi work at the A & W on Erie Ave and the Lincoln Theatre.
Vi had a strong work ethic, and cherished memories about the places of employment, and the people she worked for. Throughout the years, she worked at the Anna Reiss Home washing dishes, H.C. Prange's wrapping packages for Vietnam War and sold 3 cent stamps, Johnny's Supper Club, Dr. Bassewitz's office, Hertzingers where she ran the dining room and kept the books, Schmidler Drug Store and Fountain Park where she had the chance to meet Mario Andretti.
For ten years, Vi would take the bus to Morning Side Nursing Home each night to tuck her mother into bed. On her return home, she would stop at Rupp's Restaurant for supper, where she met her dear friend and a "very nice lady" as she would say, Jackie Sherman. Jackie looked after Vi until her passing in 1997, when Vi's care was entrusted to Jackie's children.
Vi resided at Niagara Apartments for many years, and formed many friendships. She cherished her friendships with Mary, Marge, Cindy, Karen and Peanut.
Vi is survived by her nephew David (Michon) Musich of Peyton, CO, Jackie's children who she adopted as her own, Traci Hermann of Sheboygan and David (Deb) Van Auken of Antigo, and many dear friends whom she loved dearly. She is preceded in death by her parents and her sister Ethel Burkhardt.
A Memorial Gathering will be held on Wednesday, December 6 from 11:00am - 1:00 pm in the chapel at Sunny Ridge Health and Rehabilitation Center, 3014 Erie Ave. in Sheboygan. Vi will be laid to rest at Wildwood Cemetery in Sheboygan.
Graveside Services will be held at 11:00AM on Monday, July 2, 2018 at Wildwood Cemetery with Pastor Duane Hanke officiating.
