Wilbert Van Der Puy, age 83, of Sheboygan, went home to his Lord and Savior on Friday afternoon, November 14, 2014. Wilbert was born June 15, 1931 in Sheboygan to Jan and Josina (Vreeke) Van Der Puy. He attended Sheboygan Christian Grade School and was a graduate of Sheboygan North High School, Class of 1949. On May 4, 1951 Wilbert and Joyce Ann Baumann were united in marriage at First Christian Reformed Church. They were also members of Hope Reformed Church, later returning to First Christian Reformed Church. Wilbert held church offices of Elder and Deacon. He loved the youth and was actively involved in their programs. He desired to serve the Lord all the days of his life. Wilbert celebrated 50 years of employment at Paper Box & Specialty Co., the family business, retiring in 1995 as plant supervisor. Those who worked with Weber would often hear him whistling and/or singing as he worked the day away. Weber enjoyed singing with the Men of Harmony and the Pine Haven Men's Chorus. He also was a founding member of Campus Life and helped facilitate the broadcasting of WVCY Radio to the great State of Wisconsin. He served as House Chairman of the Sheboygan Yacht Club. Weber enjoyed fishing, boating, playing golf, and "Van Der Camping". Most of all he loved his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In addition to his loving wife, Joyce, he is survived by his children, Robert (Trudy) Van Der Puy of Oostburg, Jeff Van Der Puy of Orlando, FL, and Julie (Jon) Gabrielse of Sheboygan; six granddaughters, Angela (Shawn) Spearman of Searcy, AK, Tiffany (Alfredo) Varela of Nashville, TN, Dr. Christine (Junwen) Lin of Los Angeles, CA, Amy (Joshua) Holte of Sheboygan, Heidi (Joseph) Cotton of Provo, UT, and Sarah (John) Lutgendorff of Grand Rapids, MI; three great-grandchildren, Ryan and Ian Spearman, and Elizabeth Holte; one sister, Pearl Sadler (Les, deceased) of Littleton, CO; and one brother, Richard (Sue) Van Der Puy of Sheboygan; one sister-in-law, Margaret Van Der Puy of Grand Rapids, MI; and other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Abe (Marie) Van Der Puy and Cornelius Van Der Puy and five sisters, Jennie (Mark) Eggebeen, Leona (John) Dekker, Pearl Van Der Puy, Betty (Clint) Brasser, and Marion (Randall) Back. Funeral services will be held at 12 noon on Wednesday, November 19, 2014 at Christ Community Church (formerly First Christian Reformed Church at 5th St. & Geele Ave.) Pastor Larry Meyer will officiate. A time of visitation and support will be held at Ballhorn Funeral Chapels Tuesday evening from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and at the church Wednesday morning from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will take place at Sunrise Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial funds have been established in his name for Sheboygan Christian School, Sheboygan County Christian High School, and Campus Life. Wilbert's family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the entire staff at Sheboygan Senior Community for their kindness, support, and care. You were family to him.
