Wilmer Zastrow Jr.

June 22, 1935 — October 11, 2014

Wilmer Zastrow Jr., 79, of Sheboygan, passed away on Saturday, October 11, 2014 at his home. Wilmer was born June 22, 1935 in Juneau, WI to Wilmer Sr. and Irma (Hadrath) Zastrow. He attended Sheboygan grade schools and was a graduate of Sheboygan Central High School, Class of 1954. Wilmer served his country in the US Naval Reserves and the US Marine Corps for a total of four years. On May 17, 1957 Wilmer and Jacqueline Schmidt were united in marriage at St. John Lutheran Church in Cleveland. He worked at Karstaedt's Garage as a mechanic until furthering his career as a trucker for various companies until his retirement. During his career he received the million miles safe driving award and was nominated in 1992 as The Driver of the Year. Wilmer enjoyed driving his truck, telling his truck stories, gardening, playing with his daughters' dogs, Rascal and Trooper, and working in his garage. He especially loved his seven course meals. In addition to his wife, Jacqueline, Wilmer is survived by two children, Michael Sr. (Pamela) Zastrow of Waldo and Marilee (Russell) Guenther of Plymouth; two grandchildren, Michael Zastrow Jr. of Sheboygan and Lisa Zastrow of Waldo; two sisters, Wanda (Randall) Bauer of Plymouth and Welda Fredrick of Brownsville; and many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law, Orlin Fredrick. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm on Wednesday, October 15, 2014 at Ballhorn Chapels Funeral & Cremation Care Center. Rev. Timothy P. Kuske, Pastor of Calvary Evangelical Lutheran Church, will officiate. A time of visitation and support will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday from 11:00 am until the time of service. Burial will follow at Wildwood Cemetery. A memorial fund has been established in his name. Wilmer's family extends a heartfelt thank you to Dr. Bettag and staff, Dr. Grose and staff, Dr. Pawlak, special nurse Tammy, Orange Cross Ambulance, and Sheboygan County Sheriff's Department for all the care and compassion shown to him.
